How will the Apprenticeship Scheme benefit me?

"I feel being employed by St Mungo's as an apprentice has put the final piece of the jigsaw in place, in my journey from the street back into mainstream society." - Ian, Apprentice Receptionist. (Read more).

The Apprenticeship Scheme offers hands-on experience of what it is like to work in a homelessness project for up to 12 months, with the real possibility of finding future work either at St Mungo's Broadway or further afield afterwards.

Terms and Conditions

  • 12 month paid fixed term contract
  • 37.5 hours per week (Apprentices will generally work office hours but may be required to work on a rota which includes weekends and late shifts)
  • 25 days annual leave

What can an Apprentice expect?

  • 12 month work placement - The majority of the Apprenticeship posts are based in one of our projects working as an Apprentice Project Worker.
  • Intermediate Apprenticeship in Health & Social Care - You will work towards achieving a Level 2 Apprenticeship award in Health and Social Care throughout your time with us. This will include literacy and numeracy, face to face training, assessments, observations and work based learning.
  • Training - You will be required to attend all St Mungo's Broadway core and key skills training courses. There will be opportunities to attend further development courses and access to learning resources.
  • Support - Additional to the support of your line manager, you will have the support of the Apprenticeship Coordinator who will check in with you regularly to see how things are going. Apprentices are matched with a mentor through St Mungo's Broadway Professional Development Mentoring Scheme who will support you with career progression.
  • Reflective Practice Sessions - There will be monthly reflective practice sessions with other Apprentices to give you the opportunity to talk through any challenges you are facing on the scheme and to reflect on how you can do things better.

When the Apprenticeship finishes, what next?

There is no guarantee of a job at the end of the Apprenticeship, but you will have gained 12 months of work experience, worked towards a Level 2 Apprenticeship in Health and Social Care and developed skills, knowledge and experience of being a Project Worker. You will be given support to apply for jobs as you get near the end of the scheme.
